Food Class: Caribbean (session 3)
The third session of our food class series will see participants preparing their ingredients and cooking their meals! Of course, there will be a taste test and participants will get to take home the leftovers of their meals.

We are excited to be taking part in the Superior Sizzle BBQ Tour around Thunder Bay this summer! This is an opportunity for members of the community to learn about the supports for youth and their families in the community. On July 30, we will be at Minnesota Park.

Food Class: African (session 1)
The first session of our food class series will see participants talking about nutrition in a way that makes space for culture in the conversation, and working together to build a balanced meal made up of African staples.

Food Class: African (session 2)
The second session of our food class series will see participants building a budget and a grocery list based on the meal plan they created in session 1. These lists and budgets are what we will use to go shopping in preparation for session 3.

Pizza Party
In collaboration with Sisters for Canadian Black Community and the Regional Multicultural Youth Council. we are holding a pizza party for our youth who have graduated this past year. This event is free to attend, and formal/prom attire is recommended!

Engagement Session Follow Up: Mental Health Supports for Black Youth
In follow up to our conversation series in February, Children’s Centre Thunder Bay (CCTB) is inviting members of the community to a follow up session. Community members will have the opportunity to sit down with CCTB leadership, hear an update on the actions CCTB has taken since the February conversations, and make sure that future steps align with what the community is looking for.

Movie Night with RMYC
In collaboration with the Regional Multicultural Youth Council, we’re holding a movie night as part of RMYC’s ongoing study nights.
Join us on Tuesday, February 18th (Location TBD).
Study night starts at 6:00PM, and the movie will start at 7:30PM.
Food and refreshments will be provided.

Community Consultations
In collaboration with Children’s Centre Thunder Bay, we invite members of the community to join us to share your thoughts and work with us to co-create the way forward to improve CCTB’s programs services to better meet the needs of Black youth, families, and communities.

Black History Month Dinner
Sisters for Canadian Black Community in collaboration with Northwest Black Collective’s Kwetu Youth Hub and the Regional Multicultural Youth Council (RMYC) are celebrating Black History Month!
Join us at the Moose Hall on Saturday, February 15th at 5:00 PM for a formal evening celebrating who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going.
Admission is free, but $10 donations are welcome at the door or by e-transferring to scbctbay@gmail.com.
Free Tutoring
Free tutoring will be running on the South side of town on January 29 in the Community Programming Room at Mary J.L. Black Library from 5:00-7:00PM. Tutoring is open to all youth up to age 30 (inclusive), and covers elementary and secondary level courses.

Certified Food Handling Registration is open!
This month, we’re offering a certification pathway to support 10 Black, Indigenous, and other visibly racialized peoples in getting their Certified Food Handling certificate!
Through the In Good Hands online course - created by Thunder Bay District Health Unit and approved by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care - you can go at your own pace (within a 3 month completion window) in English or French. This certificate is recognized within Ontario and is valid for 5 years.

Kwetu Youth Hub Launch
Join us on Monday, January 13, 2025 in the Oliver Room at the Oliver Road Community Centre (back entrance) for the official launch of the Kwetu Youth Hub! From 6:00-8:00 PM, we will provide an overview of the proposed programming for our hub, and will be answering questions and hearing feedback from community members and potential partners.
Food will be provided, and bus tickets are available to ensure accessibility to our event.
